Myanmar Airways rebranded as MNA before expansion

Myanmar Airways has re-brand- ed itself and changed its name to Myanmar National Airlines(MNA) in December 2014.

Captain Than Tun, the Managing Director of MNA said, “We’re excited to be part of Myanmar history. Myanmar National Air- lines has a great opportunity to completely modernize and change the way we serve our country and beyond”, according to the offi- cial site of MNA.

MNA will begin flights to international destinations in the early 2015 and launch its new domestic services with fixed sched- ules (from flexible schedules in the past). It upgrades a state-of-the-art computerized management system that streamlines com- pany-wide reservations and departure con- trol processes and systems. A new website will allow electronic booking, payment and seat selection through an online booking engine.

The airline is also launching a modern check-in system in Yangon with plans to ex- tend to Nay Pyi Taw, Mandalay and Nyaung U, over the next few weeks. The MNA fleet of 10 aircrafts, already the biggest fleet in the country, will grow by an additional 10 Boeing 737 aircrafts and 6 ATR72-600 air- crafts from next year as it launches interna- tional services after signing a deal with the

US-based GE Capital for its fleet expansion.

The deal is the largest commercial sale by a US company to Myanmar in decades and is the largest single aircraft order in the histo- ry of Myanmar’s aviation industry. Myan-

mar Airways, founded sixty five years ago as Union of Burma Airways, is the national flag carrier of Myanmar.

To mark MNA’s historic move, the airline is also restoring its 150-year-old heritage office building beside the Strand Hotel to its for- mer glory. The newly opened Travel Center offers customers assistance with bookings, ticket payments, refunds and any other travel enquiries they may have.
