Yangon LGBT Film Festival

On January 27 and 28, &PROUD took over Thakhin Mya Park, with the biggest ever Pride like event in a public space in Yangon. Over the weekend, over 6,000 people enjoyed games, exhibitions, Drag Queen Olympics sports competition, and six films in our open air cinema. Some of super stars also came to perform and express their love for the LGBT community.

Regular festival at the French Institute is back again too from February 1 to February 4 with 23 films from 10 countries, including award winning new films from the Philippines, Korea and China. Our festive opening night on February 1 will feature performances, as well as two new short documentaries . from Myanmar that were produced for the festival. On February 2, a Drag Queen will win the coveted Lipsynch Battle crown. And February 3, ‘Born this Shwe’ golden party will feature performances by AR-T and top Thai drag queens Kandy and Meantra, to put a golden crown. All events are free of charge and no tickets are needed.

&PROUD is a Yangonb a s e d i n i t i a t i v e organizing cultural events for and about the LGBT community in Myanmar. It was founded by Colors Rainbow, Abadi Art, and YG Events. The organisation’s core objectives are to celebrate LGBT lives and culture, to create awareness for LGBT rights issues in Myanmar, and bring the LGBT community in Myanmar together. Apart from the festival, &PROUD organises photo exhibitions and workshops, and has taken the film festival on the road to other cities in Myanmar. &PROUD is supported by a number of embassies, NGOs, companies and UN agencies based in Yangon, as well as several international organizations.
