The panelists discussed upon the topic “The Promise of Decentralization: the Path towards Fiscal Autonomy and Peace in Subnational Governance” at the Parami Talk Series held at the Parami Institute of Liberal Arts and Sciences. The panelists are Matthew Arnold, Country Representative of the Asia Foundation Myanmar, Pon Nya Mon, Deputy Executive Director of Ethnic Nationalities Affairs Center and Saw Kapi, Director of Salween Institute for Public Policy.

The group of panelists, moderated by Nicola Williams, Program Manager of Peace Support Team of the Asia Foundation Myanmar, discussed about the current realities, challenges, possibilities of decentralized fiscal policy in Myanmar.

“This is the first time that we are collaborating with another organization to offer Parami Talk Series. The Asia Foundation’s work in Myanmar is well-recognized. This month, I am very proud to be presenting a panel discussion on decentralization, a rather important topic for almost every sector in Myanmar. Decentralization is very much needed; however, we also have to make sure that the involved stakeholders bear responsibility and accountability to consequences of this autonomy.” said Kyaw Moe Tun, Executive Director of Parami Institute.

One of the participants who attended the previous talks said, “As for me, Parami Talk Series is a worthy experience and I would love to attend future events as well. My favorite part of Parami Talk Series is Question and Answer Session. The audience have a chance to not only gain knowledge on the topic area but also to interact with the speakers. Parami Talk Series’ topics are very relevant with the current issues happening in Myanmar.”
