MPT’s new pricing plan criticized by media

Myanmar Posts and Telecommunications (MPT) has launched a new strategy in early 2015 to compete with others international telecoms, Ooredoo and Telenor in the growing telecommunications market of the country according to its new motto “Moving Myanmar Forward”.

MPT has announced that the new pricing plan, called “Swe Thahar” will reduce the original rate of 50 kyats per minute to 35 kyats, SMS rates from 25 kyats to 15 kyats and data charges will change from 4 kyats per minute of internet use to 15 kyats per megabyte.

Local media reported the difficulties of MPT users who switched to Swe Thahar in their un-subscription process citing total loss of internet connection. MPT said they would fix the issue.

MPT said they made a record selling of a total of over 13 million SIMs which ac- counted for ninety percent of local mobile phone users.
