Local Developers face with Difficulties to Penetrate Online Game Market

Myanmar games that include traditional characters has a strong market, however, creators face with difficulties in selling as there is no strong system that allows online purchases. Games developed by the local talents may have weakness in technology, but they have strong market as evidenced by more than 100,000 free downloaders at Google Play Store.

U Myint Kyaw Thu, director of Total Game- play Studio that locally produced four pop- ular games with traditional characters, said “That’s right, we are weak in technology. But we have well-built market. It is hard for local developers as our country have a weakness point to do online distribution. Some banks and companies have started doing online money services, but it is not stable yet and we are watching the developments.”

“Last September, Total Gameplay Studio participated in Tokyo Game Fair which was held in Japan. At that game show, games that include Ba Yint Naung character and

produced from Myanmar received huge in- terest from a lot of audience”, said U Myint Kyaw Thu.

A game player said, “I played Chinlone game which was produced in honor of 27th Sea game. I also enjoy “Nga Pain’s Water Fes- tival” game from this game studio. Their products can compete with foreign games. But it is a strange thing to play with our country’s traditional characters. May be that point attracts the gamers. I think there are only a few characters now. I wish to see more characters”.

Online market Advising manager, U Aung Kann said, “Three private banks are offering online bill payment service in Myanmar. But there are only a few users. Sometimes it is ok but sometimes it is not. Occasionally foreign countries don’t accept the account that was paid bill from here.”

The games from Total Gameplay Studio (TGP) can run on any kind of mobile device using iOS or Android. It will be free to down- load but buying items in game will cost mon-

ey, according to U Myint Kyaw Thu.

TGP participated in KL Converge 2014, me- dia and game exhibition, for the first time in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. Tamainpaw thwat, Myanmar Sittuyin and a new game, Age of Bayintnaung were introduced. The viewers and companies, especially from Ma- laysia and Thailand companies, were very

interest in Myanmar’s artistic games and offered to cooperate with them, according to the TGP’s Facebook page.

Total Gameplay Studio is Myanmar’s first game studio. Their goal is to create unique and fun games. They specialize in mobile multiplayer online games.
