Since you are one of the founders, is it what you always wanted or does it comes about randomly?
When I was attending MBA after I had come back from Australia, I found a great market to give one stop service as air ambulance service in Myanmar. There is no locally owned medical assistance and international clinic services at the tourist attraction points. I established Global Assistant in cooperation with Kyaw Zin Win in February, 2016. I found the very potential market demand while I was working in on ground services at Witoriya General Hospital. I had a dream to run businesses in medical field. Hence, I established Global Assistant.
MI: Almost all your clients seems foreign, do you serve any local customers? What’s the proportion like?
All of the customers of air ambulance services in Yangon are totally local. The percentages of foreign and local customers of international clinics are 30% and 70%, respectively. Foreigners usually visit Myanmar from September to February only. How would you describe your typical customer? Customers who typically use air ambulance services are high class. Local upper class customers typically go from Yangon to Singapore for medical treatments that cost $34,000 for only transportation. There are more market demand in Mandalay than other cities.
MI: If you are not doing this, what would you be doing and why?
I would be doing businesses related to medical fields because it is my professional business. How has the slowdown in the economy and drop in tourist arrivals affected your business? In 2016 and 2017, I provided 2 to 3 cases each month for air ambulance service. In current year, I provide only 1 case each month on average. The number of customers in Bagan clinic is stable because tourists are visiting to country until December. However, local buying power drops by 30% since January this year. It is so far so good in Inle clinic.
MI: How do you normally promote GA?
I usually promote air ambulance service by providing information to individual doctors and intensive care units of hospitals for air ambulance service. I promote training services by digital marketing. I promote Global care Bagan and Inle by digital marketing and local marketing. What are your future plans? I plan to open more global care clinic chains, at least two clinics in one year.
