International Airport Tax to be increased in April

The government is raising airport tax at international hubs in Myan- mar in coming April, according to the Myanmar Department of Civil Aviation (MDCA). The airport tax will be doubled from 1,000 kyats per local person to 2,000 kyats and increased US$ 10 per foreigner to US$ 15 at Yangon, Mandalay and Nay Pyi Taw international airports. The taxes will only be increased only at country’s three in- ternational airports excluding the local hubs.

Yangon International Airport, the major aviation hub to Myanmar will be upgraded by one of Asia World Group’s subsidiaries, Pioneer Aerodrome Services and Mandalay International Airport by Mitsubishi, Japan Airlines and SPA Project Management. The new Hanthawaddy International Air- port Project is also currently underway to become the fourth international airport in Myanmar.
