National Trade Portal and Trade Repository Website

May 26 – A ceremony to the official launching of the National Trade Portal and Trade Repository Website was held in Park Royal Hotel, Nay Pyi Taw. It aims is to provide all information relating to import and export into and from Myanmar. The Myanmar Trade Portal is hosted by the Ministry of Commerce on behalf of all the Government agencies involved in the import/export process. On this portal traders will be able to get information about all the regulatory requirements they need to fulfill in order to carry out their export import transactions.

President Attended Russia-ASEAN Summit

May 19 – President attended and delivered an address at Russia-ASEAN summit in the resort city of Sochi, Russia. Representatives from 16 nations including Myanmar, Indonesia, Thailand, Vietnam, Japan, China and Singapore met at the invitation of The Business Forum of the Russian Federation to discuss the potential for developing trade and economic relations, strengthening investment potential and intensifying business cooperation between Russia and ASEAN members. During his visit to Russia, he met with the Russia Federation President, the Prime Minister of Thailand and the Vietnamese Prime Minister separately at the Radission Blu Resort and Congress Centre.

Ministries Names Changed

May 25 – As approved by the Pyidaungsu Hluttaw, President Htin Kyaw signed the announcement of the name changes of two ministries. The Ministry of Health is now renamed the Ministry of Health and Sports (MOHS), while the Ministry of Ethnic Affairs has undergone a name change in Myanmar language.

UK Education Delegation in Myanmar

A delegation of 16 UK Education and Training providers came to Myanmar organized by the British Embassy and UK Trade and Investment (UKTI). During their three-day visit (from May 18 to May 20, they visited a number of education and training centres around the city. They also provided free master classes and business matching session, attracting hundreds of representatives from local training institutions and companies. UKTI hope that UK companies can play a role in developing education and training in Myanmar.
