WHERE CAN YOU ENJOY 16 VARIATIONS OF MYANMAR TEA IN YANGON?

Tea shops in Yangon arevtypically bustling with customers in a hot and noisy environment. Rangoon Tea House (RTH) is an exception.

Located in downtown Yangon on Pansodan street, RTH offers easy access for Yangon residents and visitors. But it is not that easy to fnd as it is located above a mobile sale shop. Once you can fnd it, you will be able to taste Myanmar tea in 16 variations!

“Rangoon Tea House draws inspiration from the heritage and tradition of the old city, the wonderful food and vibrant atmosphere of downtown”, says in the RTHbrochure.

Once entering into the shop, you will feel the distinctive design with coconuts in a large bamboo basket, huge aluminum pot being used as a table, forks and spoons in small clay stoves and fowers in a clay tea pot. It is air-conditioned inside and offers a quiet environment. On the wall behind the counter, classic black and white Myanmar movies are being shown by a projector.

The menu offers the same kind of food and snacks offered in other tea shops such as Mohinga, Coconut Noodle, Nan Gyi Thoke,

Tea Leaf Salad, Chinese Bao, Samosa , Pea Paratha, etc. What is different is RTH also explains each item’s description and its ingredients. The price ranges from Ks. 1,500 to 11,000. A traditional tea costs Ks. 1,500.

It is expensive compared to a normal tea shop but RTH claims that they use hand-made ingredients with precision to ensure each variation of tea offers a unique taste.

There are 16 kinds of Myanmar tea on offer Cho Saint, Pawt Saint, Cho Pawt, Poe Man (normal), Poe Man Saint, Pawt Ker, Pawt Kyat, Gate Sone, Kyat Yay Pawt, Kyat Yay Pawt Cho Saint, Kyat Yay Pawt Pawt Saint, Cho Pyit, Cho Kyat, Cho Pawt Kyat, Kya Saint and Note Sain Tea (for diabetic – no sugar) with three color description of condensed milk, evaporated milk and kyat yay (black tea) in Tea Menu.

RTH also sells Myanmar clay teapots, stoves decorated with RTH logo as souvenirs. It is located on 2nd foor at No. 77 Pansodan Road (above T-Land phone shop) between Mahabandoola and Merchant Road in Kyauktada Township. It offers breakfast, lunch and dinner from 8am to 10pm. RTH is brought to Yangon by Htet Myet Oo, who was grown up in England. He said it took his team months to get the recipe right!
