After two successful editions, the third annual Myanmar Property awards 2017 is going to take place on June 30 at Sule Shangri-la hotel. The 2017 program was unveiled in a press conference held on December 14 and officially said open the door for nominations now. Nominations are accepted until April 28, 2017 and the official shortlist announcement is expected on May 25, 2017. Voting and nomination can be done online at the AsiaPropertyAwards.com/ nominations/. Winners are eligible to compete in the annual Asia-wide property awards to be held in Singapore later that year.
At the event, Terry Blackburn, Asia Property Awards founder and managing director was joined on the panel by chairman of the judges Richard Emerson, managing director at Emerson Real Estate (Myanmar), and representatives from the official judging supervisor, BDO (the world’s fifth largest auditing and accountancy firm).
Emerson said “Myanmar’s tourism infrastructure is critical to sustain the real estate market in 2017, as well as fleshed-out economic policies. Right now there are a lot of foreign investors coming in and there clearly is enough demand in the market but it may not be sustained if Myanmar is not a mortgage market. However, we can now look forward to working with Myanmar’s new government to overcome the challenges which lie ahead in moving towards a sustainable and progressive real estate market which benefits the growth of the country and its people in the long term”.
In 2015, a total of 14 awards were presented to 21 shortlisted developers. In 2016, the number of awards increased to 17, presented to 22 shortlisted developers and the biggest winner was four-time awardee Shwe Taung Development Co Ltd, which collected Best Developer trophy, while Keppel Land and Capital Development also received top awards. Respected businessman Serge Pun, executive chairman of the SPA Group of Companies, was also presented the coveted Real Estate Personality of the Year accolade.
