Soros to Assist in Myanmar’s Budget Drawing and Taxation

State Counselor Aung San Suu Kyi received the Soros Fund Management delegation led by its chairman George Soros in Nay Pyi Taw on January 10. During the meeting, the two exchanged views on matters pertaining to rendering technical assistances for Myanmar’s budget drawing process, taxation, prevention and reduction of narcotic drug related harm and rehabilitation, and mining and production of precious stones.

After the discussion, it was revealed that the Soros Fund Management would provide technical assistance to Myanmar for its budget drawing process and taxation.

Myanmar’s Ministry of Planning and Finance is drawing up the country’s national plan for 2017-18 and working out projects in regions and states in line with the 12-point economic policy. The National Planning Commission, led by President Htin Kyaw, has called for planning big projects within the budget allocation of the country.

Aung San Suu Kyi, who is the deputy chairperson of the commission, called for inclusion of the projects in the national planning that she said can contribute to the short-term and long-term interests of the country.
