On September 11, SCG held 6th annual Sharing the Dream program at UMFCCI. As part of the program, SCG awarded educational assistance to 150 high school students in Yangon region. Another 150 students in Mon State received funds on September 8.
T h e p r o g r a m i s p a r t o f S C G ’ s commitment to improve the livelihoods of the communities in Myanmar. Held at UMFCCI, the ceremony recognized students who have shown gratitude towards their families, proactively contributed to their communities and exhibited good academic records. This year the program has been organized under the theme “Follow Your Passion, Transform Your Community” to encourage the students to find their passion and foster its spirit to contribute back to the community.
Each student received funding of up to 250,000 Kyats to cover school fees for an academic year, as well as, school supplies. The scholarship awards were awarded by Phyo Min Thein, Chief Minister of Yangon Region, H.E. Narong Boonsatheanwong, Minister of the Royal Thai Embassy and Aree Chavalitcheewingul, President, SCG Cement-Building Materials.

Programs like SCG Sharing the Dream are a critical component in aiding our youth in their quest for an education and their overall success as they later on enter adulthood.”

We are very pleased to usher in the sixth edition of SCG Sharing the Dream in Myanmar and happy to say that encompassing this year’s scholars, we have granted more than 1,300 scholarships to students since 2012. We strongly believe education contributes to a brighter future for the student, and as a result, they will be in a position to support their families, and ultimately the community.”
The scholarship award is used for various school expenses including tuition fees, stationary and other educational equipment.
Earlier this year, 16 Myanmar university students were selected to participate in a month-long overseas internship program in Thailand, to enhance their professional knowledge and provide them with the skills to thrive in a dynamic and international work environment. SCG has introduced a number of CSR activities to give back to the people in Myanmar, including public health programs, educational support for students and community-building activities.
