New Administration Geared Towards the Elections

As expected, the SAC (State Administration Council) in place, since the change of government in February 2021 was disbanded on July 31, 2025, four and a half year later. Now the new council, or rather a commission is in place State Peace and Security Commission, led by, you guess it right, the same Senior General, who also assume the position of the Temporary President of the Nation.

This new commission will oversee the cabinet, headed by the new Prime Minister Nyo Saw, who was previously head of Myanmar Economic Holdings, the entity that control
and manage economic activities of Tatmadaw. He might even end up becoming the next President.

There is one other noticeable highlights; the absence of Navy personnel in the new Commission as well as having only one within the cabinet. This could be that this six month administration is very much focus on on-ground security (army’s territory) and less on development (based on feedback from navy technocrats) or they have been sidelined to enter the upcoming elections in January. There have been a constant heated debate among the diplomatic community on whether SG would continue to stay on to hang onto his absolute power to be the next president of Myanmar. MI brave call is that he would simply ride peacefully into sunset just like the predecessor SG Than Swe!

World Strongest Earthquake

Kamchatka experienced the strongest earthquake recorded in the entire instrumental period, registering a magnitude of 8.8, Kamchatka Governor Vladimir Solodov revealed on July 30, adding that prolonged aftershocks are anticipated. “This is the strongest earthquake in the entire instrumental period, with a magnitude of
8.8. Regular, prolonged aftershocks are expected,” Solodov wrote on his Telegram channel.

In a statement issued on Wednesday, the Geophysical Service of the Russian Academy of Sciences reported that the strongest earthquake occurred in Kamchatka. “The strongest earthquake in the Kamchatka seismic focal zone since 1952 has just occurred. The magnitude, according to various estimates, reached 8.7,” the Kamchatka branch of the Geophysical Service of the Russian Academy of Sciences said in a statement.

Russian state television broadcast footage of a tsunami wave devastating a coastal town in the far east, following an 8.8 magnitude earthquake off the Kamchatka peninsula. The expected tsunami in other nearby coastal countries from Japan to USA did not materialised sparing the lives of many who live close by the shorelines.

Report Shows Insufficient Progress On SDGs

Report Shows Insufficient Progress On SDGs With only five years to go, merely 35% of the targets of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) are on track, while nearly half are stalling and 18% have regressed, according to a UN report released in July. In the past decade since the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development was adopted, notable global achievements have been made in health, education, energy and digital connectivity, said “The Sustainable Development Goals Report 2025.”
New HIV infections have declined by nearly 40% since 2010. Malaria prevention has averted 2.2 billion cases and saved 12.7 million lives since 2000. Social protection now reaches over half the world’s population, up significantly from a decade ago. Since 2015, 110 million more children and youth have entered school.
Child marriage is in decline, with more girls staying in school and women gaining ground in parliaments around the world, the report said.
In 2023, 92% of the world’s population had access to electricity. Internet use has surged from 40% in 2015 to 68% in 2024. Conservation efforts have doubled protection of key ecosystems, contributing to global biodiversity resilience, the report said.
Now the bad news. The pace of change remains insufficient to meet the SDGs by 2030.
More than 800 million people still live in extreme poverty. Billions still lack access to safe drinking water, sanitation and hygiene services. Climate change pushed 2024 to be the hottest year on record. Conflicts caused nearly 50,000 deaths in 2024. By the end of that year, over 120 million people were forcibly displaced. Low- and middle-income countries faced record-high debt servicing costs of $1.4 trillion in 2023, according to the report.
The document called for action across six priority areas — food systems, energy access, digital transformation, education, jobs and social protection, and climate and biodiversity action.

The Epstein Saga

If you are still asking who is Jeffrey Epstein (JE) now, you have either woken up from a 3 month long coma or you just landed onto earth from another planet. To cut it short, JE is Trump’s kryptonite, every time he had a QnA with reporters, he dig himself deeper and deeper into an uncharted territory of pedophilia and paying to have sex with minors.
Why Epstein why now?
Jeffrey Epstein, the rich sex offender, has been dead for six years. But we’re still talking about him. Why? With the world in abundance of conspiracy theories, it’s hard to tell
what’s real.
His story has captivated the imagination of conspiracy theorists bent on proving that the government is corrupt -that elite America is a cabal of villainous pedophiles covering for one another. Those notions collided with real news in recent weeks, when the government released a longpromised memo about Epstein’s case. The Justice Department said it had nothing new to report.
Another still alive alleged sex offender, Sean “Diddy” Combs too, was found not guilty of the most serious charges in his recent trial: racketeering conspiracy and sex
trafficking.
Americans aren’t buying it. Most (69%) believe that the government is concealing information, including about who else may have been involved in his abuse of young girls,
according to a Reuters/Ipsos poll. The fallout has threatened to fracture Trump’s MAGA base and even his ardent supporters such as MTG, Lauren Bobert and Q Anon are turning against him, for the president failure to release JE files as previously promised.
Why are Americans so fixated on this?
Epstein was a financier who paid teenage girls to perform sex acts. He used his onetime girlfriend Ghislaine Maxwell to recruit and manage his victims. He had a wide circle of influential friends and acquaintances, including Bill Clinton and Trump.
Epstein was in legal trouble for decades: In 2005, police in Palm Beach, Fla., investigated him after the parents of a 14-year-old girl said she was molested at his mansion. In
2008, his lawyers finalised a plea deal that helped conceal the full accusations against him. But his story became major national news in 2019, when federal agents arrested him.
He died in a jail cell while awaiting trial on sex trafficking charges; a medical examiner concluded that he hanged himself. His story had all the elements for a conspiracy: He was a wealthy, politically connected man who had seemingly gotten away with horrific crimes for years and died suddenly while under government watch.
Why is he back in the news?
This may be a crisis of Trump’s own making. For years, Trump promised to reveal previously unknown details of the investigation into Epstein. And now He didn’t. The Justice Department released a memo a few weeks ago that said the investigation had concluded, and that its findings weren’t new. The government said there was no “client list” full of famous Epstein associates.
It also said he hadn’t been murdered in jail, despite the attorney general’s earlier hints that the government might disclose details on those topics. When Trump supporters revolted, the president told the Justice Department to release witness testimony gathered during Epstein’s 2019 prosecution. They were not appeased.
Why do people believe there’s
more?
Trump and Epstein were best friends. They knew each other and socialised together for a decade. Their relationship seems to have ended around 2004 after both of them bid for a property in Florida. Trump recently said their relationship turned sour after JE tried to poached one underage masseuse from his spa. Trump has faced dozens of sexual misconduct allegations over the years, but there is no evidence that connected any of those to Epstein.
Epstein got rich from powerful friends: How did he make so much money, and what did he do for the people who paid him? Billionaires like Leon Black, a private equity boss, gave him tens of millions of dollars.
There’s then this video. The government is holding video evidence collected by investigators, including footage from inside the prison. Pam Bondi, the attorney general, has said that these don’t include any depictions of crimes by Epstein or his friends and that they were clips Epstein downloaded. Still, she said that she doesn’t want to release most of the videos because they document child sexual abuse.
There was an actual coverup: The Miami Herald found in 2018 that incriminating evidence never became public as a result of Epstein’s 2008 plea deal. The federal prosecutor who arranged the deal eventually became Trump’s labor secretary. After the Herald reports, conspiracy theories proliferated.
Some people believe that Epstein didn’t die by suicide; that either Presidents Clinton or Trump had Epstein killed in jail; that he was blackmailing the rich and famous; and that he was an asset of a foreign intelligence agency. More evidences are likely to come out including photos, videos and witness accounts, that could point to Trump being birds of the same feather with Epstein.
Absolute tower
President with its near absolute power with conservative majorities in Supreme Court, Senate and House of Representatives is going all the way to distract and divert everyone’s attention from Epstein to anything but JE.
But the whole world press is not buying it. Even in Scotland recently, when Trump opened his new golf course, he got exasperated by reporters’ incessant questions on Epstein. And his excuses such as democrats planting the Epstein file to Obama being a traitor to the case being a fraud all have fallen into deaf ears. Most of his supporters
and the liberals just all dump these excuses into the bag full of lies by Trump.

From Kilimanjaro to Arusha

Off to be born free
“Born free, as free as the wind flows. As free as the grass grows. Born free to follow your heart. Born free, and life is worth living. But only worth living. ‘Cause you’re born free.” Whenever we heard of the above ‘Born Free’ music, we cannot help but remember the spirit of lioness Elsa roaming the widespread plains of Africa. We had the unique opportunity to be there to experience the soul of Africa by going for the first time to Arusha, Tanzania, attending the World Press Council Assembly and North Africa Media Councils summit.

Arusha is a city in East Africa’s Tanzania, located at the base of volcanic Mt. Meru (fifth highest mountain  in Africa). It’s a gateway to safari destinations and to Africa’s highest peak, 5,895m Mt. Kilimanjaro, lying some 100 kilometres northeast. To the west lies Serengeti National Park, home to wildlife including lions, rhinoceros, giraffes and leopards. Annual migrations feature huge herds of wildebeests crossing its plains. The city claims the title to being the fourth largest city in Tanzania.  We were there close to a week, meeting many media colleagues across the globe, discussing on media  issues of the day while exploring the various natural beauties of the country around the city.

The best way to a man’s heart

It is said that ‘The best way to a man’s heart is through is stomach’. And we do not have it easy in Tanzania. The key issue is that in Africa, rice is not the staple food. For five consecutive days, our diet suddenly changed from rice based to tuber and root-based staples. Instead of alternating between Basmati, Jasmine and Brown, we had the enviable selection of alternatives among sweet potato, yam, potatoes, and Ugali (a thick porridge made from maize flour). This sudden change of menu is something that we had not expected beforehand.

Another surprise constituent on th table is banana dishes. In our whole lives, we are totally unaware of the fact that bananas can be cooked into dishes. Hot banana soup,  banana curry, banana with beef, banana stew, you name it, they got it. We cannot help but wonder how such a tasty fruit such as banana is not eaten directly and had to go through such arduous process to turn it into something that is not incrementally better off.

Jewels of the Nile

Tanzania is quite akin to Myanmar in a sense that it also produces precious stones, despite most of them being of questionable quality. Yet there is one type of precious rock that can only be found in this great state of Tanzania – the Tanzanite. The name itself indicates its origin. Contrarians might ask ‘how about Tsavorite?’ Well Tsavorite is found across the East African region, including Kenya and Tanzania. So it is not exclusive to the latter.

The last king of Tanzanite

How would the trip to Tanzania be  complete without a tour of the famous Tanzanite experience. MI visited three out of four such places. The first one is at next to Africa Arts
Gallery, one of the major must-visit place in Arusha. The two-story shop there is as big as the gallery itself, selling everything from stationery to souvenirs to stones. There we managed to speak to the self-proclaimed king of Tanzanite. He apparently supplied all the tanzanites to Tiffany and to the 47th street jewellers in the Big Apple. A businessman of Indian origin, his family business is not just a global business, but an engagement in personal and corporate social responsibilities. The gallery itself was mainly sponsored by him and he teamed up with the UNOPs in many of the projects that help the less fortunate African children. Bravo indeed.

Thank you Mr Trump, Again?

On July 7, US President Donald Trump sent letters to 14 countries, including Myanmar, Japan, South Korea, Malaysia, Kazakhstan, Tunisia, Bosnia and Herzegovina, South
Africa, Indonesia, Bangladesh, Serbia, Cambodia, Thailand, and Laos, announcing plans to raise import tariffs.
In a letter sent to SG Min Aung Hlaing, addressed as the Chairman of the State Administration Council and Prime Minister of Myanmar, Trump acknowledged a trade deficit with Myanmar but affirmed that trade relations would continue. The letter highlighted the US commitment to fair and balanced trade and announced a 40-per-cent tariff
on all exports from Myanmar to the United States. It also noted that Myanmar companies would be permitted to invest in US-based industries and indicated openness to negotiations on trade tariffs.
The direct consequence of this letter has been the provision of a direct channel for Myanmar leaders to communicate directly to the White House, thereby allowing the them to send a reply to send a delegation to negotiate the tariffs further. It also gives Myanmar a chance to ask Trump to release a couple of billion dollars of Myanmar government funds, that were hold up by the Biden administration due to the takeover of Su Kyi administration because of voters’ fraud. Trump would be able to sympathise with the cheating on the elections, based on his own personal experiences. These actions caused a ruckus among anti government NNCP terrorist groups, as Trump indirectly gives legitimacy to Myanmar government and recognised them as representatives to negotiate on the country’s behalf. The funding of $500m+ a year by the US Aid has been cut off since February of this year and this acknowledgement just added salt to the wound.
Short of funds and lack of recognition forces their fake news mouth pieces from Chiang Mai and Mae Sot (Irrawaddy, Mizzama, Khit Thit, Myanmar Now, DVB, etc) to just phew out a slew of falsehood, lies and personal attacks on many procountry, pro-development people on the social media. Lack of funds also makes them unable to pay bribes to lower level military personal in exchange for secret government and military news. Government also counteracted by enacting a law that increases significant penalties including the death penalty for providing military and other sensitive information.
All in all, this Trump move has second most positive impact for the stability of the country, much needed for the upcoming elections (the most positive being the cancellation of US Aid). While China and India wholeheartedly support the January elections, Trump makes it possible to hold it in a more all-inclusive way by bringing down the anti government forces and indirectly reducing terror activities that would cower people not to participate in the elections. Other than advocating Trump for a possible Nobel Peace Prize, what could we possibly say. Thank you again, Mr Trump, perhaps?

Thailand – Cambodia Border Clashes: Latest Updates and Facts

Cambodia’s Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Prak Sokhonn briefed diplomats anddefence attachés on the border situation.
– Clashes occurred between Cambodian and Thai forces on last week of July, with both sides blaming each other for violations.

– Thai military reported Cambodian forces used heavy weapons, including field artillery and BM-21  rocket systems, while Thai forces responded with supporting fire.

– As of July 25, 14 Thai individuals were killed and 46 injured; one Cambodian villager was killed and five wounded.

– Over 2,900 families near the border have been evacuated to safe locations due to ongoing fighting.

– UN security council closeddoor meeting was scheduled to discuss the border clashes, requested by Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Manet. UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres urged both countries to exercise maximum restraint and resolve issues through dialogue.

– The Thai embassy to Cambodia advised Thai nationals to leave the country amid escalating tensions.

– The majority of the fighting has occurred near the Cambodian town of Samraong, close to the border, with artillery fire reported by residents.

– Cambodia reported that 536 schools in border provinces were closed due to the ongoing border conflict, affecting 130,000 students and teachers.

– At least 13 Cambodians died and 71 were injured in border clashes with Thailand, which have been ongoing for three days. This includes five Cambodian soldiers killed and 21 wounded, as well as 8 civilian deaths and 50 injuries in Oddar Meanchey province.

– The conflict has forced 10,307 families (35,829 people) to flee their homes for safer areas.

– The Cambodian Ministry of National Defense reported that the Thai army expanded its military attacks to Pursat province. The clashes began after the Cambodian side opened fire on Thai troops.

– The Thai Air Force deployed two F-16s and 2 Gripens to attack Cambodian military targets. The Thai Navy launched “Trat Strike 1” operation in response to Cambodian attacks. – Both the Thai army and Cambodia’s Deputy Prime Minister conducted briefings for diplomatic corps and defense attachés regarding the border situation.

– Tensions remain high along the Thai-Cambodian border, with both sides accusing each other of violating international law.

– Thai Foreign Minister Maris Sangiampongsa stated that Cambodia must show sincerity for any ceasefire or talks to proceed. Thailand is open to talks, possibly facilitated by Malaysia. Overall, it looks like Thailand threw a barrage of revenge attacks taking advantage of Cambodia’s lack of an Air Force and anti-aircraft batteries, after suffering initial losses on physical front at the border and emotional front that resulted in their Prime Minister getting suspended due to her disparaging remarks on her own military.

– According to a statement issued by the Thai Foreign Ministry, the first shots were fired into Thai territory by Cambodia.

– Cambodian Defence Ministry’s Undersecretary of State, Lieutenant General Maly Socheata, stated that the Thai army fired artillery at various locations in the Preah Vihear and Oddar Meanchey provinces. Fresh artillery clashes erupted on the following days near two long-contested ancient temples in the frontier region between northern Cambodia and northeast Thailand.

– Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Manet on Sunday said his country “agreed with the proposal for an immediate and unconditional ceasefire between the two armed forces.”

Yan Shin, [9/2/2025 7:36 PM]
– The fighting marks a dramatic escalation in a long-running dispute between the neighbours over their shared 800-kilometre border where dozens of kilometres are contested.

– US President Donald Trump, once again jumping on his trade bandwagon, called for a ceasefire after holding calls with the heads of state of both nations. Evantually, Thai and Cambodia’s leaders have agreed to implement a ceasefire starting midnight on July 28, Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim said following a meeting hosted by him. At a joint press conference with Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Manet and acting Thai Prime Minister Phumtham Wechayachai following the ceasefire talks, Anwar outlined a step-bystep de-escalation process and the mechanism through which it will be implemented and monitored. “Both Cambodia and Thailand reached a common understanding as follows — an immediate and unconditional ceasefire with effect from 24:00 hours (local time) on 28 July 2025. This is a vital first step towards de escalation and the restoration of peace and security,” he said.

According to Anwar, the initial ceasefire will be followed by the reestablishment of contacts between the regional army commanders on both sides through a face-to-face meeting at 7 am local time on July 29, which will be followed by a meeting of the defence attaches of both sides, led by the chair of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) if both sides are agreeable, and finally a meeting of the General Border Committee (GBC) on August 4 to be hosted by Cambodia. “As the current chair of ASEAN, Malaysia stands ready to coordinate an observer team to verify and ensure the implementation of the ceasefire. Malaysia will also consult with fellow ASEAN member states to participate in the observation effort, reflecting a regional commitment to supporting peace on the ground,” he said. “Both sides also agree to resume direct communications between both prime ministers, foreign ministers and defence ministers,” Anwar added.

Sounding Alarm for the Region – You will Thank Me Later

The scam centres along side Myanmar eastern borders could be one of the most newsworthy issue of 2025. But with Myanmar government cleaning these up at rocket speed and EAOs caught between the devil and the deep blue sea, the supply of scams could become more decentralised over the next few years.  Their operations become more mobile and agile. The number of staff involved also become akin to terror cells, staffed with just a few people with lots of mobile phones, technologies  and AI. The supply might not drop but it would definitely become more distributed, scammers being stationed in various cities and towns within the poorer ASEAN countries. Regardless of supply, the demand side is on the side of the righteous. With more and more people becoming aware of scams of various kinds and major news network doing investigative
works along Mae Sot – Myawaddy border, the chances of public getting conned is lesser than what it was a couple of years ago. Words of mouth spread is also contributing towards the fight against scams. Furthermore, how many times could you possibly scam one person. Fool me once, shame on you; fool me twice, shame on me! Or, that person has already run out of life long savings to be scammed upon. Hence, the demand for scams is going south as we write this and eventually, it would not occupy the top spot in crime charts even as the scammers devise new ways to dupe people using technology and ai. So, the crimes of swindle will dwindle as we straddle a quarter of this
century.

It’s great news for everyone then, is it not? Based on MI forecast of the times ahead, there might be more serious issues brewing around the corner. The reasoning is simple… The governance and law and order misalignment at the border areas have not been addressed at all. These regions, Wa, Koh Kant, some parts of Shan, Kayin, Kachin, Chin, Nagaland, are totally not under the control of the Myanmar government or military (Tatmadaw). The EAOs operating there are more interested in enriching themselves whichever way possible, rather than building infrastructure for the people. The drug lords, crime lords, war lords, etc., are still thriving there, by currying favours with the barbarian leaders of EAOs. Hence, the ecosystem is so oriented towards these regions into becoming the epicentre of next tsunami of global transgression. Drugs are openly sold along the streets of Hpa Kant, in Kachin State. Most of the youths in city of Mogok, near northern Shan are addicted to one kind of drug or another. The border town of Tachileik, being the major town in the Golden Triangle, is also flooded with drugs of various kinds that the residents there could not address the regularity of major floods that inundated the ground floors of almost all houses in the city.

In another checkpoint city of Myawaddy, frequent clashes between Tatmadaw and EAOs or between EAOs themselves have become so common that people are interested
in making quick money only i.e., engaging in abundance of vice. Further down south along the Three Pagoda pass, the sole trade across the border seems to be only in synthetic drugs. We do not know which way it is heading from there, but stats do actually reveal some trends. Even in cities such as Maw La Myine, the capital of Mon State, the only profitable businesses to do seems to be synthetic drugs, gambling and smuggling. We personally heard the direct account from youth and businessmen over there, who would regularly goto ‘Hi’ rooms once a week at least, as long as they got money in the pocket.

Outside of Myanmar, the latest statistics in Malaysia showed a 32.5% increase in reported drug users and addicts from 2023 to 2024. Its DPM said, “Drug abuse in Malaysia has reached a “critical level” and threatens public safety, economic stability, and social structures”. Australia has also reported A$450 million more drug seizures in 2024 compared to previous years. Thailand reported nearly 50% increase in drug related cases in 2024, too.
In Myanmar as well, the value of drug seizures have gone up significantly. Gone were the days when the carriers are caught with a hundred thousand dollars or so worth of drugs. Recent synthetic drugs seizures are each in excess of $1million for each bust. In its 2024 Annual Report, the International Narcotics Control Board finds that,
– illicit synthetic drugs are
spreading fast and consumption
is increasing
– more coordinated action by
Governments and others is
needed to tackle the problem
– synthetic drugs could overtake
some plant-based drugs in the
future.
The total and individual value of drug busts have gone up, even though the cost of synthetic drugs have gone down, which undoubtedly leads to the conclusion that the
volume of drugs shipped or transportedmust have gone up exponentially.

Synthetic drugs are easily manufactured with little technical or scientific knowledge and there is a reduced need for labour or land for cultivation unlike for plant-based drugs such as Cocaine or Heroine. The manufacture can be located anywhere and the same equipment can be used for different synthetic outputs. Traffickers can shift manufacture, movement and marketing tactics to keep operating costs down and profit margins up as well as to reduce risks of interdiction.

As synthetic drugs are more potent, traffickers can send smaller consignments which are easier to conceal and sometimes use drones and other new trafficking techniques. Although global demand for plantbased drugs is still higher than the current supply of synthetic drugs seizures of synthetic substances have already begun to outpace seizures of some plant-based drugs. Along the border regions of Myanmar, as long as the EAOs turned a blind eye, every household compound or basement can be a synthetic drug lab, churning out thousands of tablets per day. And if they can turn a blind eye to the scams that cheat the poor and gullible without an ounce of conscience, why would they bother interfering when they are producing and exporting some drugs! After all, they have been one of the world top exporters of Heroine before.

MI has spoken to one prominent business person from Keng Tung in Eastern Shan. He said the largest factories that supply the world of synthetics were located around the centre of Shan State, under the control of Wa and Shan State Armies. The individual labs by aspiring entrepreneurs are on empty land plots just on the outskirts of major towns and cities in these regions. The difference between synthetics and scams is such that the latter is not additive. The demand for scams is every diminishing while the demand for synthetics is growing exponentially, as the supply exploded and prices dropped. Combined that with addiction factor, we are looking at a worldwide disaster within a relatively short number of years. Just like scam centres, lack of jurisdiction alignment would come into play, resulting in years of inaction, blame game and finger pointing, while the world youth succumbs to the synthetic enslavement and loss of productivity and economic output.

We need to start working together now; ASEAN, RCEP, Interpol, INCB, etc., to ensure that the problem is nib in the bud. We definitely do not want another similar cataclysm
like the scam centres, do we??

What are Microplastics Doing to Our Brains?

Microplastics, tiny plastic particles, have been found accumulating in human brains, raising concerns about their potential health effects, although evidence of harm remains inconclusive. These particles are pervasive, detected in various environments, including mountains, oceans, and human bodies, affecting organs such as lungs and hearts. A significant study published in Nature Medicine revealed microplastics in brain tissue samples from deceased individuals, suggesting an increase over time.

The lead researcher, MatthewCampen, estimated that a human brain could contain around 10 grammes of microplastics, comparable to an unused crayon. However, experts urge caution, emphasising that the study’s findings should be independently verified. Toxicologist Theodore Henry noted that speculation about health impacts exceeds the current evidence, while chemist Oliver Jones highlighted the lack of data to draw firm conclusions.

Observational studies have linked microplastics to health risks, such as increased heart attack and stroke risk, but definitive cause-and-effect relationships remain unestablished. Despite insufficient evidence, health experts advocate for proactive measures to limit exposure to microplastics, citing the precautionary principle. Another health hazard in the making in this world already full of uncertainties and dangers.

Myanmar Won World Championship in Esports

In the biggest underdog story of the year, Yangon Galacticos has won the PUBG Mobile World Cup (PMWC) 2025 after ‘surviving’ the Survival Stage by just one point.

The Myanmar team was never among the favourites for the tournament, but managed to showcase the unpredictability of PUBG Mobile esports, as it defeated all the usual
favourites to be crowned world champions.

To put the scale of Yangon Galacticos’ achievement into perspective, the team made it through open qualifiers in Myanmar to the Challengers League (SEA) to qualify. Furthermore, the team was not any part of the Super League of any region.

By seed distribution in the PMWC Grand Finals, Yangon Galacticos are technically last. This is because it was the last team to qualify through the Survival Stage. The team placed eighth, and just a loss of one point would have led to elimination.

The Grand Finale
In the grand finals, the first match was uneventful for the team, as it was eliminated in 12th place with just one kill. However, just in the second game, the team earned a WWCD (Winner Winner Chicken Dinner), that too with 12 eliminations to its name. This was its third WWCD throughout the PMWC.

However, from there, the team put up a string of consistent performances, including three more victories to propel Yangon Galacticos to the top of the standings table with 157 points, 15 ahead of secondplaced Weibo Gaming.

China’s Weibo Gaming were one of
the favourites to win the tournament,
but had to settle for second
place.
