As the famous English writer Virginia Woolf’s said “One cannot think well, love well, sleep well, if one has not dined well”.
There is a good news for gourmets who want a taste of the Mediterranean in Yangon. ‘Olea’, the name of the restaurant, means olive in Latin. From the land of sun, sea and olive trees, a new Mediterranean restaurant has brought high quality, lovingly prepared southern European food . With a capacity for 60 people, it is located on Meliá Yangon’s first floor.
Upon entering the restaurant, you can feel the very different vibe. The interior is impressive because everything is minimalist. The walls, the curtains and most of the furniture is white. You will feel as if you are on a Mediterranean Island. Olea features a country style dining including a relaxing sofa lounge area perfect for pre-dinner or afterwork drinks and a wine cellar in addition to its private dining area. Featuring cuisines that varies from province to province and country to country (including Greece, Spain, Italy, France and Northern Africa), Olea offers modern interpretations of classic Tapas, Tagines, Grills and more.
As a Tapas Platter (appetizer or snack in Spanish), Taleggio (Marinated zucchini and smoky eggplant), Tuna (White Tomato mousse and lemon zest), Chili Shrimp (Avocado and coriander), Serrano ham (Torched goat cheese, apricot and walnuts). Sea bass is one of the main dishes worth recommending and comes mixed with olives, grilled zucchini, chickpea salad and lemon. The freshness of the sea bass with lemon makes it aromatic and perfect. Last but not least, the chocolate mousse is the recommended desert. The under layer is chocolate mousse which is topped with raspberry sorbet and pistachio meringue.
There are over 40 Mediterranean course on the a la carte menu. Prices sit between $6 and $30. The restaurant opens its doors for dinner service every day, from 6 pm to 10 pm, to invite customers to merge in its modern, relaxing and homely ambience. Groups can be considered for lunch with pre-arrangement. Slightly earlier, customers will be able to enjoy a range of spirits and cocktails from entry level up to the top shelf in Olea’s bar: from Monday to Friday from 5 pm to 10 pm and on Saturday and Sunday from 3 pm to 10 pm. Escape the pace of the city by soaking up the atmosphere in comfortable surroundings while sipping something special from wine cellar. A
