MYTEL to Launch SIMs in the First Quarter of 2018

M Y T E L , t h e f o u r t h telecommunications operator in Myanmar, will launch 4G LTE capable SIMs sometime in the first quarter of 2018, according to Zaw Min Oo, Chief External Relations Officer of the provider. The telco has projected to initially launch 10 million SIMs nationwide and the SIMs will be capable of 4G service.

Construction of telecommunications infrastructure such as towers and fibre optic networks has finished more than half of the targeted facility and officials at MYTEL are planning to officially announce the time when the company’s service will be launched, Zaw Min Oo said.

MYTEL will implement more than 6,000 telecommunications towers for its networking, and also share the towers of the existing operators. The telco, which was granted the fourth operator licence in January 2017, aims to mainly spread its network in rural areas. The company is a joint venture between Viettel from Vietnam, local consortium M y a n m a r N a t i o n a l T e l e c o m and Communications (MNTC) comprising 11 public companies and Star High Public Company, which is a subsidiary of Myanmar Economic Corporation (MEC).
