Myanmar Connect 2015 to be Held in Nay Pyi Taw

The Ministry of Communications and Information Technology (MCIT) will officially co-host Myanmar Connect 2015, to be held on 15 and 16 September 2015 at Nay Pyi Taw. In this conference, strong government representation, both MICT and the Post and telecommunication and all four network license holders: Takashi Nagashima, (CEO, Joint Operations, MPT/KDDI/Sumitomo Corpo- ration), Shane Thu Aung (CEO, Yatanarpon Teleport), Senior Representative (Ooredoo Myanmar) and Petter Furberg (CEO, Telenor Myanmar) will be present to discuss the future of Myanmar Telecom Sector and Myanmar’s first year of international telecoms competition and share their thoughts on future developments.

Myanmar Connect 2015 which mainly focues on strategy, infrastructure and services will bring together industry leading speakers who will evaluate the rapid transformation of Myanmar’s telecoms sector. During the past year mobile subscriptions grew by 87.4% and mobile penetration reached an all-time high of 19.9% . Ros Irving, CEO of Capacity Media said, “Building on our reputation as the most important event in Myanmar’s telecoms calendar, it brings me great pleasure to announce that Myanmar Connect will bring together C-level executives from even more parts of the industry”. Myanmar Connect 2015 will also examine the significant opportunities presented by what many are predicting to be the world’s fastest ever roll-out of mobile services, as both international and domestic license holders work to create a modern 3G network capable of reaching 90% of the population within five years.

Edwin Vanderbruggen (Partner, VDB Loi), will talk about navigating the Myanmar telecoms licensing maze including the possibilities, opportunities and restrictions posed by the latest round of telecom licensing rules. Then, the infrastructural challenges faced by firms, when they work to make connect- ed Myanmar a reality, will be talked over by a panel of industry experts include Jan Wassenius (Vice President, Ericsson Myanmar), Shawn Xu (Executive Deputy Managing Director, Myanmar Fibre Optic Communication Network Co Ltd) and a senior repre- sentative from Global Technology Company Limited.In addition, Lord John Edgecumbe Shazell, (CEO, Teleconsult International Pte Ltd), Dr Myo Ohn, (CEO, Campana Group) Alexandre Pébereau (CEO, Orange Carriers LLC) Ho Cong Lam, (Deputy Managing Director, VNPT International) will analyze the outlook on future projects aimed at improving connectivity between Myanmar and the rest of the world.
