Honeywell Initiates Scholarship to Foster Chemical Engineering Education

Four senior chemical engineering students became the first recipients of a scholarship program Honeywell initiated in Myanmar, to foster its advanced education in chemical engineering for the long-term development of the country.

Honeywell UOP, a well-recognized global leader in refining and petrochemical technology, sponsored the program. Four senior-year students, two from Mandalay Technological University and two from Yangon Technological University, were chosen, each with a scholarship equivalent to $500. “We are honored to contribute to Myanmar’s growth by supporting its talented students in their pursuit of education in chemical engineering,” said Jim Rekoske, Vice President and Chief Technology Officer of Honeywell UOP. “We hope this will be only the first step in building a long- term program to foster the advancement of oil refining, gas processing and petrochemical industries in Myanmar.”

To be eligible for the scholarship, students were required to obtain a GPA of at least 3.4 on a 4.0 scale, exhibit their integrity and academic promise, as well as strong communication and leadership skills. They also need to have a good understanding of the many technologies offered by Honeywell. This is the second scholarship program Honeywell UOP has established in the Southeast Asia region. The first was initiated in Vietnam four years ago and has since then benefited more than 60 chemical engineering students in that country.
