The Yangon Bus Line Public Company has been formed with 25 billion kyats ($19million) in capital. The Government through Yangon Region Supervisory Committee for Motor Vehicles, (known as “MaHtaTha”) contributed 10 billion kyats, and the private sector put up the remaining 15 billion kyats. Shwe Than Lwin, Shwetaung Group, Diamond Star, Zeya & Associates and Fishery and Marine Products company would each hold 2 billion kyats worth of shares, and the remaining 5 billion kyats worth of shares will be sold to the public. So far, Yangon Bus Line Public Company has issued more than 750 million kyats worth of shares for operating BTR system bus line in Yangon. The company has been registered to Directorate of Investment and Companies Administration (DICA).
Dr. Maung Aung, the Chairman of the company said, “Now, we have sold over 750 million kyats worth of shares and first route of BRT system will start running next January. Currently, more than 370 investors have bought the shares and the company will continue to issue up to 5 billion kyats worth of shares. The company will give priority to recruit drivers and conductors who have passed at least the matriculation examination”
Hla Aung, Chairman of MaHtaTha (MHT) also shared, “As buses will start running in January, the company will recruit the drivers who pass psychological test during this month. The drivers must be middle-aged and already have a driver’s license. They will be trained on how to handle the newly imported buses. The new payroll system for drivers and conductors is through monthly salary system and salary rates have not been determined yet. But, the company will give sufficient salaries for them”.
The BRT system will connect Pyay Road, Kabaraye Pagoda Road, Hlaingthaya Township, Dagon University and Thilawa Special Economic Zone. As a first route to run BRT system, there will separately construct 36 bus stops on the Pyay Road and Kabar Aye Pagoda Road. At the end of December, imported new buses will arrive and they will start simultaneously running on the planned routes.
