Baker & McKenize Appoint New Managing Partner

To strengthen the presence of Baker & McKenize in Yangon, the company has appointed Jo Daniels as a Managing Partner. Jo has over 20 years of experience in a range of areas including mergers and acquisitions, specializing in infrastructure development around transportation and power which are essential to Myanmar’s future growth. Daniel says she warmly welcomes the Myanmar new investment law.

Daniel stressed that by working together with international lawyers, local lawyers can learn and enhance their own skills to keep abreast with international standard. This collaboration can also help foreign lawyers understand the Myanmar legal landscape. To attract more foreign investors, Myanmar needs to improve not only policies, legal framework but also infrastructure, political stability. On September 9, Baker & McKenize hosted “Myanmar’s Legal Landscape and Future Development” Special roundtable discussion. Baker & McKenize’s global executive and Regional Council members including Global Executive Committee Member and Asia Pacific Chairman, Asia Pacific Regional Council Member and Tokyo Managing Partner, Executive Committee Member (elect) were in attendance.

In 2014, Baker & Mckenize has opened its first office, sixteenth office in the Asia Pacific region, in Yangon. Currently, it has four partners and eleven other legal staff for Yangon office.
