EuroCham Myanmar organized a breakfast talk on European Economic Diplomacy with H.E Kristian Schmidt, EU Ambassador to Myanmar in the presence of more than 35 country representatives of European companies in Myanmar on Thursday, December 7. The event was initiated to establish a regular consultation platform between EU Delegation and EuroCham advocacy members.
The EuroCham Breakfast Talk started with an introduction by the Ambassador Schmidt in which he underlined his ambition to support the European private sector in Myanmar, advocating a level playing field and WTO compliance: European companies need to cooperate through EuroCham Myanmar as an advocacy platform to fully leverage their strength – technology, access to capital and know-how to promoting inclusive growth.
With regards to the current situation in Rakhine and its political and economic repercussions the ambassador ensured continued EU engagement and support to Myanmar, but stressed that the EU will continue it advocacy for human rights in the country.
The co-chairs and representatives of the EuroCham advocacy groups (Anti-Illicit Trade Advocacy Group, Automotive Advocacy Group, Construction Advocacy Group, Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) Advocacy Group, Digital Innovation Advocacy Group, Energy Advocacy Group, Health Advocacy Group, Legal Advocacy Group and Logistics Advocacy Group) presented the EU Ambassador with an update on the current state of affairs in their respective sectors.
The European companies expressed their appreciation for the EU Ambassador’s presentation and support. Moreover, they look forward to continuing and intensifying their cooperation with the EU Delegation through EuroCham Myanmar to jointly improve the business climate for European companies in the country.
