More of the rare and adorable red pandas have arrived at Yangon Zoo. The endangered red panda popu-lation has dwindled to fewer than 10,000 in the wild in their natural habitats, and the Yangon Zoo was pleased to welcome them again.
The new arrivals came from Kam-paiti town of Kachin State, near the Chinese border, and were trans-ported to the Yangon Zoo on August 30, with the help of the Myanmar Airways International and a team of veterinarians and supervisors. Red pandas are listed on the IUCN Red List of Threatened Species and Yangon Zoo is carefully protecting them from extinction.
Red pandas are mammals that live in the eastern Himalayas and western China. They are peaceful by nature and normally feed before dawn and at dusk, sleep-ing in the afternoons. Yangon Zoo opens from 8:00 everyday.
