Untimely Rains Caused Havoc in the Capital

Members of the Fire Services Department were kept busy right after the untimely heavy rains fall upon the capital and other parts of Myanmar on February 17. Fallen trees and broken branches had to be cleared in most townships of Yangon. The gale-force winds, thunderstorms, and in some areas hail storms accompany the rains. Most of the residents were unprepared for such torrential rains coming in right before the hot season. The buildings are not spared either. Most of the owners having not done the once a year water proofing of roofs and windows, were left to clean up the water seepage and leakages in many buildings across town.

In addition to Yangon Nay Pyi Taw, Bago, Ayeyawady and Taninthayi regions, Shan (North), Kayin and Mon states also experienced scattered heavy downpour. In addition, thunder storms were spotted in Mandalay, Kachin and Rakhine.
