Telenor in Tanintharyi Division

Telenor Myanmar expanded its network in Dawei, Tanintharyi Division to continue to supply reasonable mobile Internet and voice services in Myanmar. Tanintharyi Division becomes the 13th major spot under Telenor’s coverage, joining the other areas such as Nay Pyi Taw, Yangon, Mandaly, Sagaing, Bago, Magway, Ayeyarwady, Kachin, Kayah, Kayin, Mon and Shan.

Telenor’s network was launched with 60 towers in Tanintharyi Division and 16 in Dawei. Telenor has more than 700 POS (points of scale) in Dawei and 900 POS in Myeik and it also opened, as part of the company’s traditional “Blue Wave” activities was Telenor’s Franchised-Operated (FOFO) store. Chief Executive Officer of Telenor Myanmar, Mr. Petter Furberg, said, “We are doing our best to continue the pace of our network development although this rainy season challenges us. We have progressively expanded our services to more towns and cities to emphasize our mission to operate for everyone with affordable voice and data charges. We are also committed to continue raising and optimizing our network at the places where we have launched.”

“We are working hard to improve the superiority of our network and providing our customers with the most inexpensive prices in the market. Recently, we lowered voice tariffs from 25 Kyats to 18 Kyats (on-net) and 23 Kyats (off-net) with our latest Super Pwar plan. And with more than 10 million Telenor users in the country, our customers are now on Myanmar’s fastest growing, 100% 3G network.” Mr Furberg added. As a part of network launching activity; Telenor also celebrated its traditional market engagement activity called “Blue Wave” in Dawei. Telenor employees visited around Dawei to interact with customers. They also visited Dawei home for the aged to donate SIMs and handsets.

Unlike the usual Blue Wave events, Telenor included a small charity show to increase funds for communities in flood-hit areas in Myanmar. At the event, attendees contributed a total of MMK 10 millions to help the flood victims. All the contribution from locals will be transferred to the Network Activities Group (NAG), Telenor partner relief agency. The donation by Dawei residents will be doubled by Telenor Myanmar in order to assist the recovery process for flood hit areas through NAG.

Telenor today has a network footprint of more than 2,700 sites, covering more than 50% of populated areas across Myanmar. The company is expected to rollout between 3,500 and 4,000 towers by end 2015
