President Htin Kyaw went on a tour of flood-affected areas in the Ayeyawady Region to encourage and provide aids to flood victims.
The president and his entourage comprising Union ministers arrived at Pathein, Ayeyawady Region, yesterday via a special flight of the Tatmadaw.
On his arrival at a temporary camp in Thabaung township of Ayeyawady Region, the president met with local people sheltering at Kanyinchaung Monastery and provided relief supplies including rice and edible oil to flood victims.
During his visit, he spoke words of encouragement and pledged that the Union government would assist in their rehabilitation.
He also spoke with members of the Ayayawady Region Parliament on efforts pertaining to the rehabilitation of flood-affected people.
The president also went to Ngathaingchaung, Kyonpyaw, Pathein and Kangyidauk and provided relief supplies to the flood-affected sheltering at temporary relief camps.
The flood, which began in mid-June, has affected more than 500,000 people from more than 120,000 families in 19 townships of Ayayawady Region. The National Disaster Management Committee provided authorities with more than K200 million for the relief and rehabilitation of the flood-affected in the region.
