May 9 – President Htin Kyaw requested the right to equal treatment for Myanmar migrant workers in Thailand during a meeting with Thailand’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Don Pramudwinai. During the meeting at Credentials Hall in the Presidential Palace in Nay Pyi Taw, the Myanmar president said the two countries will enjoy stronger economic and trade relations following the completion of the Myanmar-Thailand Friendship Bridge No 2 at Myawaddy.
The Thai foreign affairs minister said Thailand hopes to hold talks on bilateral cooperation during the upcoming Russia-ASEAN Summit, and he invited the president to pay a goodwill visit to Thailand. Next, the two held discussions on trilateral cooperation between Myanmar, Thailand and Japan in developing the Dawei Special Economic Zone, the expansion of sustainable and responsible investments, further cooperation in the sectors of capacity building and human resources development and measures to upgrade the Emergency Department at Dawei Hospital.
Minister of Information H.E Dr Pe Myint, Minister of Labor, Immigration and Communion H.E Thein Swe, Thai ambassador to Myanmar, H.E Pisanu Suvanajata and other officials were present at the meeting.
