Oway Ride Launches “Customer Top Up” Application

Oway Ride, car on-demand service introduced its new “Consumer Top Up” application and Oway Taxi rider are now able to pay their taxi fares without the trouble of handling cash on the spot. Consumers are now able to topup their accounts at all of Oway Ride’s taxi service booths, located at shopping centers around Yangon and Mandalay. Kyaw Min Swe, Senior Director of Oway Ride said “We understand that customers don’t want to deal with fare negotiation and cash during their taxi ride, this is why we thought of the Consumer Top Up feature”. He added “This initiative would be perfect for mothers concerned to let their kids handle cash. We want them to feel confident that their loved ones are safe when traveling. With the friend tracker feature introduced a few months ago and now the consumer top-up feature, we believe that taxi safety has made a big step in Myanmar”.

Consumer Top-Ups are now available at Oway Ride booths in Myanmar Plaza, Ocean Tarmway, Ocean 9.5 miles, City Mart Thamine, City Mart Myay Ni Gone in Yangon and Oway Ride office in Mandalay, with more outlets to come very soon including Mingalar Mandalay and City Mart 19th Street in Mandalay.

There are around 70,000 taxis which many are owned and run by individuals in Yangon. One of Myanmar local pioneering app-based cab service providers, Oway Ride has been cultivating a culture in which apps are used to hail taxis in the city since 2016. In 2017, two foreign brands entered into Myanmar car on demand service market; Singapore-based firm Grab launched its beta trial service in March and US-based Uber expanded in May. Oway Ride currently has a fleet of 4,000 cars and 150,000 app subscribers. According to The Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) report, 20 per cent of over two million commuters in Yangon use taxis while the rest travel with public transport.
