New US Ambassador to Myanmar

April 27 – Ambassador Scot Marciel was officially credentialed by President Htin Kyaw at the Presidential Palace in Naypyitaw. The ceremony formally recognizes Ambassador Marciel as President Obama’s formal representative of the U.S. government to Myanmar

Ambassador Marciel also congratulated Htin Kyaw on being elected President and reiterated President Obama’s statement that the March 30 inauguration was a “testament to Myanmar’s people, institutions, and leaders who have worked together to ensure a peaceful transfer of power.” Ambassador Marciel underscored the United States’ commitment to work with the new government in pursuit of peace, prosperity, and democracy throughout Myanmar.

Ambassador Marciel stated that he and his wife were thrilled to be in Myanmar. They are looking forward to exploring Myanmar’s rich history and culture, while working in partnership with the people of this country in pursuit of peace, prosperity, and democracy.
