Myanmar’s Advertising Industry Expands, Aims to Meet International Standards

The Advertising Agencies Association of Myanmar (AAAM) was launched this past month as a means to develop the country’s advertising market to international standards. The first of its kind in Myanmar, AAAM is a non-profit group aiming to develop, educate, and reform Myanmar’s $200 million advertising market.

AAAM will build the country’s advertising industry by developing professional standards, codes of conduct, and a successful means to recruiting new talent in the field. The group will also work with the government and media owners in order establish agreed-upon regulations for the industry

“We hope to play a key role in the Myanmar advertising industry, by advocating an atmosphere of professionalism, creativity and a genuine interest in uplifting the standards of advertising in the country,” says Dr. Tha Thun Oo of Today Ogilvy, a Myanmar-based advertising agency. He will be leading the association along with Hnin Swe of Mango Media, the biggest media agency in Myanmar.

The founding agencies for the association include the Mango Group, Today Ogilvy, Myanmar SPA Advertising, Future Com, Coca Media, Net Com, Mandalay Advertising, Red Line, Ignite and Y&R.
