Japanese SMEs to enter the local market

Discussions with the government for Japanese small and medium enterprises (SMEs) to enter
Myanmar have been made. In developing Myanmar’s SME market, Japanese enter- prises are eager to involve in consumer goods, Food & Beverage (F&B) and mini- stores but are facing difficulties with high property prices and are in need of government support, according to Japan – Myanmar economic cooperation committee. Japanese Prime Minister Mr. Shinzo Abe has announced that investments and Japan-Myanmar cooperation will be in- creased only after the General Election in 2015. Japan has been one of the major trad- ing partners of Myanmar and participated in developing Thilawa Special Economic Zone (SEZ). Currently, plans are underway to establish a Japan-Myanmar SME center to develop Myanmar’s SME sector.
