Myanmar Army arrested more than 150 illegal loggers near Myanmar-China border in Kachin State, and majority of them being foreigners, the Ministry of Defense an- nounced. Authorities said they have seized 436 logging trucks and 14 pickup trucks loaded with logs, drugs and Chinese currency notes. Though Myanmar didn’t confirm the illegal loggers’ nationality at first, reports have been said that most of them proba- bly were Chinese nationals.
Due to the decrease in forest areas within the country, the government has officially banned exporting logs on 1st April of 2014. Still, illegal logging is a serious problem. The fate of illegal loggers is still not decided yet.
