Fifth Meeting of OECD-Southeast Asia Corporate Governance Initiative

The Fifth Meeting of OECD-Southeast Asia Corporate Governance Initiative was held at Pan Pacific Yangon Hotel on March 28 with the collaboration of the Directorate of Investment & Company Administration, Ministry of Planning & Finance, Securities and Exchange Commission of Myanmar (SECM), OECD and the Government of Japan.

The objective of the meeting is to discuss the steps taken by the governments of Myanmar, Vietnam, Lao PDR and Cambodia towards the development and improvement of sound corporate governance framework, to foster improved corporate governance, to spur capital market development and to enhance the countries’ attractiveness to foreign investment.

At the meeting, Deputy Minister Maung Maung Win, Ministry of Planning & Finance delivered opening remarks and the panel discussion continued with the title, “the ASEAN Economic Community: corporate governance challenges and opportunities”. Aung Naing Oo, Director General of DICA, made a presentation on the current corporate governance developments in Myanmar. During the meeting, representatives from Cambodia, Lao PDR and Vietnam explained about the recent corporate governance developments of their countries respectively. The event on launch of the OECD – Myanmar Corporate Governance Reform Programme will be held at the same place on March 29.
