The Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) and Ministry of Commerce had announced plans to construct a dry port near the Myawaddy Trade Zone to enhance the flow on trade. The project will be jointly implemented.
The dry port will include storage and an import/export online licensing system that will be used after construction is completed. a detailed process is still under discussion said San Phyo Wai, the assistant director of Myawady trade zone. A detailed process over how much money will be used as well as how to build the port is still under discussion. Yangon and Mandalay are also going to have dry-ports in the future. There is a plan to carry products between Yangon and Mandalay on the railway rather on the Yangon-Nay Pyi Taw- Mandalay Highway. There are almost 400 miles between Yangon and Mandalay.
The dry-ports will be constructed to facilitate the shipment of cargo inland. In Yangon, there is a dry port already at the Yangon Thilawa SEZ.
