Customs Department has announced that customs duty and taxes on domestically-assembled SKD and CKD vehicles has been eased. With the permission of the Myanmar Investment Commission, the customs rates of imports of domestically produced semi-knocked-down (SKD) and completely knocked-down (CKD) system vehicles will be lowered from June 1, 2023 to May 31, 2024.
The tax rate for SKD system passenger cars with above 2000cc has been reduced from 7.5% to 5%, whereas the rate for CKD system passenger cars with above 2000cc has been reduced from 5% to 3%.
Permits to import new vehicles have been suspended since September 2021. Currently, only commercial vehicles are allowed to be imported at a rate of five vehicles per week.
