On November 6, Central Bank of Myanmar (CBM) started selling 5,000 kyats coins for the commemoration of the frist tenure of the constitutional government of the Republic of the Union of Myanmar. It also marks the first five-year term of office of the civilian government since 2011. After 2010 general election, Myanmar’s first civilian government came into power in 2011, led by President Thein Sein. The coins are available at jewelry sales centers of Myanmar Gems Enterprise in Naypyidaw, Yangon and Mandalay. In Yangon, Sales Center of Myanmar Gems Enterprise is located in No.23.G/Floor, Kabar Aye Pagoda Rd, Gems Museum, and Mayangone. 400 coins in Naypyidaw, 1000 coins in Yangon have already been sold at the end of November. Many people including tourists are very keen to buy and keep the coins as a collectable. These coins for commemoration are minted with pure silver 92.50%. It has a diameter of 25 millimeters and weighs 20 grams.
On the front face of these coins includes National Emblem of Myanmar and at the bottom of National Emblem includes 5,000 kyats and issued date 2015. At the top around area of front face includes the words “The Government of the Union of Myanmar” (in Myanmar) and at the bottom around area of front face includes the print “Central Bank of Myanmar (in Myanmar). Back face of this coin includes Royal White Elephant and 5,000 kyats,with the issue date 2015 include under the elephant. At the top around area of back face includes the wording “The Government of the Republic of the Union of Myanmar” (in English) and at the bottom around area of back face includes “Central Bank of Myanmar”(in English). These coins were issued in limited quantities and sell for 30,000 kyats (U$ 24) per coin. These coins are not valid currency, however, Myanmar’s currency is almost exclusively limited to notes; a 5kyat coin was issued in the 1990s but it is now extremely rare, due to infation and being impractical to carry around.
