Black Hat Wine Bar & Burmese Tapas Restaurant

Black Hat Wine Bar & Burmese Tapas Restaurant is the perfect refuge for those looking for a break from the hustle and bustle of modern Yangon. Located at Sule Plaza on Sule Pagoda Road, it is a neat throwback to the 1960s era, decked out with pictures of famous movie stars from a bygone era including Elvis Presley, Marilyn Monroe, Winn Oo, and Win Min Than. Patrons can sip wine while listening to jazz music and watch classic black and white films that are projected on the wall behind the lavishly decorated bar. Black and white uniformed servers warmly welcome patrons wearing — what else — a black hat. Every Sunday Black Hat offers a “Sundate” event which features live music from a classical piano player.

With its cozy atmosphere, Black Hat is perfect for a date night. However, for larger parties a private dining room can be reserved for up to 40 guests.

Black Hat is the first ever Burmese tapas in Myanmar. Its menu is a fusion of Myanmar and European food. Currently, the best-selling main courses are dried smooth fish and rice chicken. When it comes to the appetizers, the best-selling items are fried potatoes, mutton balls and grilled pork ribs. Black Hat also features a wide variety of wine, but the most popular is “Mr. Mick.” It’s only 6,000 mmk per glass. With their weekday lunch specials, an appetizer, main course, dessert and coffee will cost only $20 per person from 11:00 am- 3:00 pm. And be sure not to miss the “Sunday Brunch” buffet style menu, costing only $10 per person.
