Under the patronage of Daw Aung Sann Suu Kyi , 7th Yangon Photo Festival (YPF) will take place on February 9-14, 2015 at the French Institute and other venues in Yangon with the theme “I love you”.
The purpose of YPF is to exhibit a selec- tion of the best works produced around the world and to nurture a new generation of Myanmar photographers.
The YPF’s participants are being trained free of charge by French photographer Christo- phe Loviny with 8-day master class from De- cember 8 to January 31 at the French Center (Mandalay), Kengtung, Myeik, Dawei and French Institute (Yangon). The trainees were chosen by their strong professional motivation, their chosen subjects which they would like to work on during the workshop and the ability to tell stories and technical skills in photography.
In the first day of the class, Loviny will lec- ture about narrative storytelling with multi- media and photography in particular. Then, a selection of 30 high quality picture-stories made by the lecturer, famous photojournal- ists and former Myanmar participants to Yangon Photo Festival will be displayed. Then the rest of the training days will be dedicated to shooting. After 5days of picture shooting and editing, the last two days of the workshop will be mostly dedicated to edit- ing the final multimedia to be shown to the public in the evening of the last day.
The best photo-essays will be screened in front of the public and the jury will be pre- sided by Daw Aung San Suu Kyi. Prizes such as Canon Cameras and training opportuni- ties in France will be awarded.
YPF will include 15 exhibitions, screenings, discussions, master classes with visiting international artists and a show involving underprivileged teenagers using the arts of photography and storytelling, juggling and dance. The festival will culminate on Valen- tine’s Day, 14th February, with the Yangon Photo Night.
