Soe Thane, who served as Minister for Industry and later as Minister for the President’s Office under the leadership of President Thein Sein government, launched second edition and Myanmar version of Myanmar’s Transformation & U Thein Sein at the press conference held at the Pan Pacific Hotel at June 2, 2018.
Soe Thane started to write the first edition of this book in English version at April 2016 after the retirement of former president Thein Sein. At the press conference, he explained the reasons for writing his book that there is a lack of deep inside knowledge of government in the country and this book is intended to be something to read, research and learn for current government, young politicians, political parties, researchers and professionals.
He explored three significant factors that have been implemented under former government in this book; from military to democracy, from war to peace and from command economy to market economy. He also described the sections of the book that he like and the respective reasons.
In this insider’s account, he described how a team with little experience with democracy transformed the country from a military controlled dictatorship to a democracy in order to become a peaceful, democratic, all inclusive, dynamic and developed Myanmar within five years. He described the critical milestones achieved and how the government overcame unexpected challenges, clashes, crisis and difficulties. He also writes about the leadership styles, personalities and attitudes of President Thein Sein. Towards the end of the book, he highlighted stories about U Thant, General Aung San and Dr. Maung Maung as lessons to be learned in politics.
