The Myanmar Garment Manufacturers Association (MGMA) hosted 2nd Annual Factory Awards Dinner on October 24th at Summit Parkview Hotel Grand Ballroom, following on the success of last year’s first-ever factory awards dinner. The event was attended by more than 200 guests. Leaders in the industry gather together to celebrate the achievements in improving social compliance practices. The event included business networking, an award ceremony and a keynote speech by presidential economic adviser Professor Dr. Aung Tun Thet.
For excellence in social compliance improvements, one factory was honored with a “Smart Award”. A 2nd runner-up factory was awarded an ‘honorable mention’ for excellent practices in employee contracts and workplace conditions. A rigorous selection process was conducted by SMART Myanmar’s (www.smartmyanmar.org) social compliance experts in order to ensure that the applying factories truly exhibited excellent practices in manufacturing in Myanmar.
This event is the premier annual business networking event of the year for Myanmar’s garment industry. Sponsors included TÜV SÜD, Maersk Line, OV Logistics, Luther Law, Fine 9 Consulting, and BLX Labels. The EU project SMART Myanmar was responsible for sponsoring the award.
