Bringing Europe to Myanmar

C a t c h 1 7 contemporary films from across Europe at the 27th European Film Festival i n Y a n g o n . Organized by the Delegation of the European Union t o M y a n m a r and the Goethe I n s t i t u t e Myanmar, with contributions f r o m 1 7 E u r o p e a n countries, the European Film Festival Yangon 2018 took place from September 21 to 30.

The annual European Film Festival is the longest-running foreign festival in Myanmar. It aims to promote a cultural exchange between Myanmar and Europe while showcasing the diversity of European cinema. At media briefing, H.E. Kristian Schmidt, Ambassador of the European Union to Myanmar said, ” E u r o p e a n films have their o w n , s p e c i a l n a t u r e . T h e y are often ironic, u n e x p e c t e d a n d s e l d o m heroic. But this is what makes t h e i r s t o r i e s so intriguing a n d r e l e v a n t t o e v e r y o n e . We hope that the European Film Festival will show our guests that underneath our cultural differences, we all have a shared humanity.”

French film “Django” opened this year’s festival on September 21 at Nay Pyi Taw Cinema in downtown Yangon. Tickets for the films are free and available on a first come, first served basis at the respective venue one hour to fifteen minutes before the scheduled screening.
